Cargo systems for Boeing 737 and 757

By means of streamlining the loading and unloading of baggage, the system contributes to reducing an aircraft's downtime at an airport. Airlines can also make reductions in staff required, as well as ergonomic improvements for the personnel who work with loading and unloading the baggage.

By introducing structural parts with carbon fibre and Kevlar laminate, we have contributed to significantly reducing the overall weight of the loading system.

Telair manufactures cargo systems for aircraft and has around 30 employees. Their international customers operate Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and Bombardier, and the sliding carpet system shortens loading time per flight by roughly 20 %.

In 2011 Telair considered introducing a carbon fibre version of the carpet and gradually phasing out the glass fibre version. That would reduce weight further without compromising strength and safety. They looked for a supplier that could consistently deliver high quality with the highest delivery precision, and that had already worked with carbon fibre.

Prototype manufacturing was marked by a willingness to collaborate. The two companies evaluated different carbon fibre suppliers together and tested the strengths and weaknesses of material grades and fibre thicknesses, and how they would affect the final product.

We have now produced several different parts for Telair for close to a decade, and demand for the carbon fibre version has passed the glass fibre version. The change has resulted in more than 30 % lower weight for the total system.
